This session explores the relationship and relevance of trauma to speech-language pathology work with preschoolers and their families. Drawing on research and real-world practice, we will review trauma-informed care assumptions and principles, and discuss how universal trauma screening has been designed and implemented in preschool speech and language services. This session will share research findings, including the prevalence and types of trauma exposure identified, and caregiver and clinician responses to screening implementation. Attendees will see how trauma-informed principles can be applied in individual practice, programs, and systems, and will have the opportunity to reflect on adaptations for their own work.
