This interactive session will introduce the Ezhi-gkendaagziyang, a new communication assessment process co-developed with Dokis First Nation for junior and senior kindergarten children. Participants will learn about the research and community priorities that shaped the tool’s development and how it addresses cultural and linguistic differences often overlooked by norm-referenced assessments. The session will highlight practical strategies, with particular attention to the relational approaches valued by many First Nations families. Attendees will leave with concrete guidance, inspiration, and the confidence to adapt the Ezhi-gkendaagziyang to their own contexts while deepening their understanding of culturally and linguistically responsive assessment practices.
