The ASPEKT-C Method is a standard approach for measuring videofluoroscopic parameters of swallowing, and determining whether or not values are of clinical concern. This talk will provide updates on reference values research through a clinician’s lens, including a discussion of newly proposed clinical decision limits, similar to those used in laboratory medicine. The session will empower clinicians to leverage quantitative swallowing measures using commonly accessible tools, and understand how quantitative measures distinguish between healthy aging and pathophysiology on VFSS. Finally, it will discuss recent updates from the “Foods” side of the IDDSI Framework, the limits of current knowledge, and future directions.
