Persistent and severe expressive language difficulties in autistic children may signal a co-occurring speech-motor disorder. While motor-speech treatments for childhood apraxia of speech exist, most were designed for non-autistic populations and overlook neurodiversity-affirming practice and autistic differences in neurophysiology, sensory regulation, joint attention, learning styles, passions, and communication preferences. We introduce MIND-AP (Motor Speech Intervention for Neurodiversity-Affirming Practices), a strengths-based, connection-focused framework integrating motor-speech therapy for individuals with dual diagnoses of autism and motor-speech deficits. This presentation will introduce components of MIND-AP and provide evidence-based clinical strategies to support autistic individuals with motor speech deficits.
