Culturally Safe Family-Centered Early Intervention Services: Perspectives from Parents and Service Providers of Children who are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing

This study explores the characteristics of cultural safety in Family-Centered Early Intervention services for children who are d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing and their families (FCEI-DHH). Perspectives of 31 culturally and ethnically diverse BC families and 29 service providers were gathered through two online surveys. Analyses examined the influence of geographical location and parent self-identity (Deaf, Indigenous, racialized, marginalized, and/or belonging to a dominant group) on FCEI services, identifying areas of improvement to meet recommendations for FCEI-DHH. This study can inform the development of evidence-based practice guidelines in the delivery of FCEI-DHH and help mark progress towards achieving health equity.
