Our project explored the training protocols for flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) across healthcare institutions in Southern Ontario, to determine consistency of protocols and identify regulatory guidance gaps. We conducted an environmental scan using purposive sampling, collecting data from institutions with FEES programs. Results showed significant variability in policies and protocols in the details related to background knowledge, procedural training, interpretation protocols, and competency maintenance. This highlights a need for the development of standardized and evidence-based FEES training guidelines provincially to enhance SLP competency, ensure optimal patient care, and support continuous professional development.
