Project-Based Therapy: What it is, How to Do it and Why it Works

Each year thousands of Canadians sustain acquired brain injuries including stroke, that limit people’s ability to communicate so to live their best lives. Best Practices in neurorehabilitation stress the importance of providing interventions that are person-centered, meaningful and contextually based, but little is shared about how to do that in practical terms. Project-Based Therapy is an effective means to provide this critical treatment. Using a case-based methodology, participants will learn the keys to constructing, implementing and evaluating project-based intervention.

Project-based therapy is the ideal environment for collaboration among Speech-Language Pathologists, Assistants, Family, Community members and the person living with a communication disorder.
